How it Works

Who is Try a Tri for?
Try a Tri’s heart and soul is founded on the fact that anybody can be a triathlete.  We have a special place in our hearts for the brand new athlete.

However, many experienced triathletes, cyclists and marathoners are Try a Tri athletes.  Why? Because Coach K and her husband, Coach Robert have a passion for helping each athlete develop to their highest potential while keeping set backs like injuries to a minimum and helping them fit the smartest possible training into their busy lives.

How does Try a Tri work?
Try a Tri runs in 3 sessions per year – Winter/Spring, Summer and Fall. During each session most athletes will race in one or more events.

Try a Tri accepts new athletes at the beginning of each session only. It is highly recommended to attend the "reg and roll" meetings as typically the sessions sell out.  We cap our enrollment so that we can best meet the needs of our athletes.

Because we have many new athletes as well as experienced athletes, we've created a unique approach to group training plans.  We offer several options for you to select from based on experience, goals and the season of your life.

Try a Tri Classic - This is our sprint triathlon training program.  This training plan is where everyone starts in Try a Tri.  It accomodates the total beginner as well as those who may have some triathlon experience or may be transfering from another sport such as running, biking or swimming.  Try a Tri Classic builds the fundamentals and  offers two different training levels to choose from depending on your experience.  Each session, this is the training plan about 70% of our athletes train under. It works and it fits into busy lives!

Try a Tri Small Groups - Four athletes or more form a small group. A small group is a group of athletes that have selected a target race and are training towards that race.  Coach K writes a plan that gets the group to this target race.  If the group selects and agrees, the plan will be written with interim races that occur prior to the target race. We've learned that athletes training together, working towards a common goal not only have fun but also accomplish more with the support, encouragement and challenge the group brings to each person. Because so many fundamentals are covered in Classic, an athlete must have completed one session of Try a Tri Classic before becoming eligible for a Small Group.  Small Groups can train for any distance triathlon, swim event, run or bike race.  It's up to the group!

Why does Try a Tri work?

Because the training plans allow an athlete to fit triathlon into their lives.

Because we are a community of people just like you, encouraging, challenging and supporting each other.

Because there is accountability to the training plan for each athlete from their mentor and/or Coach K.
